Travel Italy - Day I \\ 1 Basilica of Santa Croce at Imperial Chienti

In the next post I will report some information to fully enjoy the places you visit in the first leg of the trip (this link find the location of the first day). After traveling around the waterfront and the beautiful pine forest, climbing up the Imperial Valley Chienti find the Basilica of Santa Croce in Chienti.

IMPERIAL CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS CHIENTI

History of the place: Ancient records (in fact, is the oldest document that exists in the Marches) make it even date back to 887 AD when it was opened in the presence 19 Bishops of the Duchy of Spoleto, 27 Canons, various princes, the Emperor and the Bishop of Fermo, Fermo of the Chapter. Originally, the church must be three aisles, but was altered many times over the centuries stretching and adding a small vault in the chancel.

Imperial Basilica of Santa Croce in Chienti - September 2010

Next to the Basilica was also a monastery, now deceased. In 1219 the Basilica was closed and the monks scattered. In 1749 a plaque was affixed to the wall still exists, in memory of its founding. Been abandoned for centuries, in 1790 the monastic complex was reduced to a farmhouse, deriving from the Church a barn loft the nave, apse and a house in a barn on the right aisle. Neglect and abandonment could only move forward inexorably, so that someone in the late nineteenth century he wrote: "what would have been better if the time and ignorance also had the [basilica] matched to the ground! ... let me scream at the Vandal desecration! ... People are ignorant of the ninth century was able to erect and make it great - the intelligent, wise, the science of our age could not reduce it so that this poor Basilica! Shame! " . Words away, but still very contemporary.

Interior of the Basilica after the restoration, which is still closed to the public - September 2010
has now been almost completely restored and is planning to make it open to the public. Nearby there are also realizing the cycle routes so you can admire the ancient territory of the abbots of Santa Croce.

Visiting hours: Today, the Basilica has not yet visited, just because it restored.

Sources: Wikipedia Charlemagne met Adrian I - source: Internet
path Description: The journey starts from the wooden platform on the beach of Porto Sant 'Elpidio (south ) at the intersection of Via Marina and Via Faleria (commonly called "street promenade"). The picture of the previous post was taken at that place. Go along for the full long bike path north and then you get into Via Fratti, just before the river Chienti direction Sant 'Elpidio a Mare. Along the road to the village of Bivio Cascina. At the crossroads turn right and swim in the countryside in the direction of the Imperial Basilica of Santa Croce in Chienti recently restored, but still closed to the public. From here continue along the river Ete until you reach the main road (there is a roundabout) along the villa's Diego Della Valle, owner with his brother, the ACF Fiorentina. Head right towards the town of Montecosaro Scalo, but, just after the bridge on the highway (SS77), turn immediately left into the Church of Santa Maria a Footer Chienti
. You can not miss it, because the road got there, turns them around. After stopping by and having admired the structure and the frescoes, as we enter the until you cross the main road (SR485) on which you must enter and follow the road to Macerata. You will pass the village of Trodica Morrovalle and even after passing through the village of San Claudio school you have to turn right and follow the signs towards'
Abbey of San Claudio al Chienti
. This area, and this Abbey in particular was very important. According to recent studies, but still unconfirmed, the Abbey of San Claudio al Chienti is the old Aachen, the seat of the Carolingian Empire founded by Charlemagne.
If you do not want to return your long distance and continue along Contrada Valleverde through the town of Piediripa. Now, anziché andare verso Macerata, proseguite ancora lungo il fiume Chienti in direzione Sforzacosta.
Urbisaglia Sant'Angelo in Pontano where the first stage. In the next post I will give you useful information to introduce visitors to some key points of the first stage.
crossed the town and visit the Rock of Urbisaglia . Now go back down into the Strada Picena Sarnano direction. Step Colmurano, Borgo Ripe, stains and Passo San Gines are among countries that encounter. Step height of Sant'Angelo, turn left and head
Route details
: length about 71 km - difference in altitude around 665 m.

Waterfalls Of Cornwall

Non chiudiamo gli occhi e i nostri cuori!!!

Perhaps all or almost all, thought that my long battle was over here. Well unfortunately not, and so now I have to say for those who do not know me well and does not know that for me what you choose to do in life, because we really believe, you must complete.

Alessandra
